During the month of October, we held a drive to collect snacks for students at…
This winter and spring, the Sunday School children will be studying “Great Christian Men and Women Who Have Made a Difference in the World.”
We began with Harriet Ross Tubman and have moved on to studying Jesse Bushyhead. We chose him because he had a close connection with Rev. Evan Jones, from our congregation. Here is a link to a video of the story.
Two wonderful Christian men who worked side by side for the benefit of the Cherokee people. Rev. Jesse Bushyhead, a Cherokee Baptist Minister, was suggested to us by his story in our Sunday School textbook, Brave Heroes and Bold Defenders: 50 True Stories of Daring Men of God by Shirley Raye Redmond. Rev. Evan Jones is also mentioned in the story of Jesse Bushyhead. Evan Jones was a member of our church, briefly, and went to be a missionary to the Cherokee people along with the group that included Rachel Cleaver. Our Women’s Missionary Group, in the 1820s, along with the Philadelphia Baptist Association, raised money to support the mission at Valley Town, North Carolina. We hope you will find the video interesting.
In our classes we are also working with another book by Shirley Raye Redmond about Courageous World Changers: 50 True Stories of Daring Women of God. Harvest House Publishers, Eugene OR.
